There are more than 4000 animals representing more than 800 species from all over the world at the San Diego Zoo, which occupies 100 acres in Balboa Park. By exploring nature, the expansive 32-acre Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp fosters empathy toward wildlife. There are eight buildings and habitats dispersed throughout four different habitat zones at Wildlife Explorers Basecamp in San Diego, built on the site of the famous Children's Zoo. Visitors can observe a variety of extraordinary species including leafcutter ants, orb weaver spiders, prairie dogs, and sloths in the area that blends innovation and immersive technology. The exhibit also features oversized sculptures themed to species and a unique floating, 7-foot-high stone globe rotating on water.
